10th Anniversary Mixtape held in a different garden each night. Saturday will be in collaboration with the 16th Annual Anarchist Bookfair and Emma Goldman Film Festival. And on Sunday we will be hosting our 10th Anniversary Party next door to the museum at Nublu. Please join us in celebrating out 10 years of existence, ticket donations and sales will continue to support us for the next decade!

Thursday, September 8th @ La Plaza Cultural

 

  • Your House is Mine (2004)

This documentary is about the history of squatting and the squatters’ struggles to make their housing permanent. Director Caroline McCaughey will speak.

 

  • Takeover (2021)

Takeover tells the story of the Young Lords Party storming Lincoln Hospital to call for better and more accessible healthcare. Director Emma Francis Snyder will speak. 

 

Friday, September 9 @ Green Oasis 

 

  • Still We Ride (2005)

This documentary covers a crucial time period during the growth of bicycling and non-polluting transportation when group bicycle rides were under attack from the NYPD. Speakers include Time’s Up founder and MoRUS director Bill DiPaola and director Chris Ryan.

 

  • 1971 (2014)

1971 documents the Citizens’ Commission to Investigate the FBI’s break-in to an FBI office in Pennsylvania and their discovery of documents that revealed the government’s shocking attempts to spy on and divide local community groups.  Heidi Boghosian, former director of the National Lawyers Guild and author of Spying on Democracy and I Have Nothing to Hide, will speak.

The Emma Goldman Anarchist Film Festival celebrates the spirit of resistance against the domineering forces of the state, the capitalist economic system and all forms of social repression.

 

Sunday, September 11th – MoRUS Fundraiser Gala & Anniversary Celebration

 

  • Held at Nublu, 5-9pm

We close off our tenth annual film festival with a big party to thank all of our supporters, volunteers, partners, sponsors, and the community at large. Join us for an evening of music, dancing, food, drink, great conversation, artwork, video projections, and good vibes. As we celebrate the past ten years, this fundraiser will help us have the means to continue our work in the community for decades to come!
